About our new LIS

Our new Laboratory Information System (LIS) is the interface between human investigation and analyser technology; it is the software which records and reports on testing procedures and results. In practical terms an LIS is the foundation of any modern pathology service.

SA Pathology's new LIS replaces three different systems we inherited when we amalgamated IMVS with SouthPath and WCH. When fully implemented in late 2017, the system will provide an integrated platform that connects all our laboratories and public hospitals state-wide, including the new RAH.

Some Women's & Children's Hospital laboratories (automated chemistry, haematology, paediatric chemistry and transfusion medicine) will soon report through the new LIS. The first phase of migration will primarily affect clinicians ordering tests for WCH hospital and paediatric patients, and doctors receiving copies of those reports.
