New laboratory is one step closer

22 September 2021

A new purpose-built facility housing SA Pathology’s main laboratory is one step closer following the release of an advance tender notice on Monday 20 September.

SA Health released the notice to the open market, inviting expressions of interest to build a new state-of-the-art laboratory in the CBD’s Health and Biomedical Precinct.

The new state-of-the-art facility, first announced in April 2020, is a significant investment in SA Pathology’s future that will enable optimised throughput, efficiency, logistics and digitisation of imaging.

Over the past three years SA Pathology has demonstrated significant performance improvement as well as a clear commitment to quality care, innovation and sustainability.

SA Pathology Clinical Service Director Tom Dodd said the new headquarters will promote even further innovation across the service.

“The new central laboratory will provide the opportunity to enhance existing clinical and research partnerships and ultimately achieve a more responsive and efficient pathology service,” he said.

The new facility will be located in close proximity to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and new Women’s and Children’s Hospital, with expected completion in 2026.
