Professor Peter O’Loughlin is Directorate Manager, Chemical Pathology and Acting Head of Research at SA Pathology. He has published more than 60 peer reviewed papers on his research interests on the hormonal control of bone metabolism in the maintenance of a healthy skeleton and androgen status in ageing men.
Peter has a strong track record in test and service development and has driven technological change in specialised chemical pathology testing protocols adopting analytical chemistry platforms such as gas chromatography mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The changes have enabled improvements in specificity and sensitivity and broadened the scope of testing.
Peter holds academic appointments at the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide and has contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching since 1987.
Peter is a Past-President of the Australian Society for Medical Research, a past member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the John Curtin School of Medical Research, a member of the Hanson Institute of Medical Research and a research member of the Freemason’s Foundation Centre for Men’s Health.
