Dr Papanicolas obtained her post-graduate medical degree at Flinders University in 2003 and went on to train as a physician specialising in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology.
She is a fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia since 2016. She has since completed a PhD in bacterial genomics focusing on the role of the gut microbiome in driving resistant infections in critically ill patients and those receiving chemotherapy.
Since 2020 she has been employed as a consultant clinical microbiologist at SA Pathology contributing to both the COVID-19 response and the supervision of bacteriology work.
