Dr Heather Tapp graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1983. She pursued a career in paediatrics and completed her training at the Adelaide Children’s Hospital (now the Women's and Children's), the Sydney Children's Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Sydney. She commenced haematology training at the Women's and Children's Hospital and completed this at the IMVS/RAH. Her joint Fellowships were awarded in 1999.

She was appointed as a Consultant in Haematology/Oncology at the WCH in 2000, and became acting Head of the Clinical Service between 2002 and 2004. She is currently a Senior Consultant providing both clinical and laboratory services.

Dr Tapp’s research pertains to the measurement of hepatic iron and the development of markers for the risk stratification of febrile neutropenia.  She is a member of ANZCHOG and COG collaborative research studies (paediatric malignancy), and provides an ongoing contribution to collaborative research via her involvement in international studies of childhood malignancy.

Her interests and specialisations include paediatric oncology/haematology, obstetric haematology, coagulation disorders and thrombophilia.
