Going Above and Beyond at Morphett Vale Collection Centre
16 October 2019
As DOE is rolled out to the collection centres in the metropolitan area; this has given the training team an opportunity to meet our phlebotomists and visit these community based SA Pathology locations.
The collection centres can be the first link a member of the public has with SA Pathology and the guys and gals in Patient Services are delivering a responsive service with a smile.
Many of the patients they encounter everyday are unwell and everyday can be a struggle physically and mentally for them. Staff in the collection centres get to know these patients very well.
At Doctors Rd, Morphett Vale, the ladies will even bring in flowers from their own gardens and create posies to give their palliative and other unwell patients to cheer them up. Tears often turn into smiles as a result of their kindness.

With over 20,000 patients visiting the centre each year, children commonly come in for collections and the ladies engage the services of their trusty hand puppet to distract the child. They also gift the kids a hand crocheted finger puppet for being brave. The finger puppets are procured from the volunteers at FMC. The children love the attention so much they will often get showered with stickers as well!
The staff at Morphett Vale go above and beyond for their patients, as do other collection centres. Our phlebotomists do a wonderful job of serving the South Australian population with a caring smile, ensuring every person walks away knowing someone was considerate towards them today.
